Data Recovery

If you need to recover data from a hard drive or other media that cannot be accessed in the normal way and TCNJ Information Technology is unable to recover it using any of our tools,  then the next option may be to seek the services of a data recovery company. This could be necessary if a hard drive fails and can no longer be accessed, or it could be that you deleted a number of important files in error.  The College will work with its selected vendor to obtain the quote and answer any technical questions related to the attempt recovery.

Please note that it is the financial responsibility of the School / Department to fund the external recovery and that there is no guarantee that the recovery process will be successful.

Features

The Office of Information Technology provides a “best-effort” data recovery service for College owned computers.  Although this process often proves successful, pro-active backup of files to College provided storage is highly encouraged.

  • Best-effort attempt to recover data, dependent on state of the device
  • Multiple software tools employed to assist in recovery
  • When attempts prove unsuccessful, guidance on available external vendors and costs is provided.  It is the financial responsibility of the School / Department to fund the costs of external recovery.
